For those of you who will host workshops for me, I want to say thank you in advance. The hosting format helps me to contact those who would be interested without expensive and often fruitless attempts at advertising. It's also an opportunity for me to connect with communities and to be part of the formation of a community. By taking on the challenge of host/organizer, you would first need to find approximately 8-10 or more participants. For every 10 or so paying participants, I will accept two more on full or partial scholarship. I have found that gatherings of 8-12 or 13 are optimal for small group dynamics. If there are more than 25 participants then the format would change to a mass chanting format which can be very powerful. I have led groups of up to 50 participants with great success. The larger group sound dynamic produces the healing effect of this kind of workshop, rather than the personal focus of the smaller workshops. (Click on the sample of Spontaneous Chanting/Healing Harmonics). Of course, the larger the group of participants, the lower the tuition will be. Once you have contacted 8-10 participants the next step would be to find a suitable location (hopefully free of charge or at minimal cost). My first workshops were held in private homes, then in yoga studios, and then in a large church. In each case, there was either no cost or a nominal rental fee. Then, together we could look at the cost of transportation and accommodations. I would be very happy staying with you as host or in the home of a friend or with one of the participants. Perhaps the scholarship recipients would like to provide me with meals and accommodation. So, transportation, most likely by air, and any connecting transportation would be the other major cost beyond that of tuition. My baseline fee is $2000* which breaks down to $200 per person in a smaller group of 8-10 participants. In a larger group of 15 - 20 the fee per person would be less: $150. Transportation costs would vary depending on the price of the airline ticket. The following example might help you to see how total cost would be reflected in the cost for each participant: Total per participant.....$300 (Includes free CD. Approximately 14 hours of Workshop time.) Example for workshop with 16-20 paying participants, plus 4 more on scholarship. Total per participant......$200 (Includes free CD. Approximately 14 hours of Workshop time.)
*In some cases my basic fees can be negotiated. Together we would work out a booking and schedule the workshop well in advance of the arranged dates to facilitate travel arrangements, etc. I would book my flights immediately upon receiving funds to cover ticket costs. In some communities, it might be a good idea to hold a "Getting to Know You" meeting for the general public on the Thursday night just prior to the workshop at a minimal charge. This way, those who are interested, but reluctant to enroll unless they have had an experience of chanting with me, could do so. I'm sure this would be an extra effort on your part as host and perhaps some advertising cost for which I would compensate you. And once again, perhaps someone who would wish to attend on scholarship could handle this part of the arrangements. |
